All of the Cub Scouts in Pack 131 continue to make progress towards ranks.
- Mr. Buchanan taught the Tigers and the Bears about emergency preparedness. The Cub dads are invited to attend next week’s Den meeting to help their son develop an emergency plan for their household.
- The Webelos continued to learn more about physical fitness from Mr. Carrell and Mr. Young.
The boys were encouraged to log-on to our Pack website with their parents to wwatch the Trails End Popcorn training videos. They were also encouraged to sign up at Trails-End.com so that they may easily sell popcorn to out-of-town family and friends.
More announcements and information may be found on our latest Pack 131 Newsletter.
Troop 131 and Pack 131 kicked off the 2009 Trails End Popcorn sale on September 29. Over 70% of the sales volume stays local with 31% going directly to our units. This fundraiser is crucial for us to provide a quality, year-round, action-packed, first-rate program for the boys.
The Scouts, with their parents, are encouraged to visit our Scouts131.com Popcorn Training. Next they should go to Trails-End.com where they can create an account. This account will allow them to sell delicious Trails-End Popcorn to out-of-town friends and relatives.
Mr. Smith will be offering the Scouts additional sales training at our next meeting. Mr. Daniel will be talking about the prizes that our boys will be earning, and Mr. Buchanan will be letting everybody know what flavor of pie he likes best.
The Cub Scouts are evaluating the use of ScoutTrack, an Internet-based service that makes it easy to manage Cub Scout Packs. This service will allow the leaders to enter the Cubs’ progress toward ranks and other awards. Parents will also be able to log on and enter progress that their boys have made at home. Other features include:
- Tiger 2001 program
- Tiger Cub Badge
- Tiger Cub Belt Totem and Totem beads
- Tiger Electives and Tiger Track beads
- Sports and Academics belt loops and pins

Dear Cub Scout Parents,
Thank you all for attending the organizational meeting that took place on June 30. Scoutmaster Don Smith discussed the genesis of Troop 131 in March of 1999 and the changes and challenges that have been experienced throughout the years. He also discussed his vision for the future which was partially realized last year with the creation of Cub Scout Pack 131. Clint Staples told us that when the pack was started last year, he was expecting to have two or three boys attending. It is obvious from the growth that the pack experienced last year that there is a want and a need for a Cub Scout Pack where spiritual character development is the primary objective.
Our pack’s future looks bright going into the future:
- We will have two new Tiger Cubs starting.
- We will have a number of Bear Cubs.
- We will also have three boys who will begin working on their Webelo rank.
The pack’s leadership will be changing this year. Clint Staples, who served previously as our Den Leader, will be working with the Boy Scouts, and Matt Broadfield, who served as Cubmaster, has decided not to renew his commitment. Daniel Carroll has volunteered to serve as Webelo Den Leader. The other positions remain currently unfilled, however I would like to nominate the following dads to serve in the following roles:
- Bears Den Leader–Todd Buchanan
- Bears Assistant Den Leader–Kevin Young
- Cubmaster–John Daniel
- Committee Members–Matt Broadfield, and Kirk Beason
