ALL:

  • Mom & Me is this weekend! The boy scouts are meeting up at the church at 7am on Saturday morning. (They will not be camping out on Friday or Saturday night). So, cub mom, you are welcome to meet up with us then. The boy scouts will return to the church Saturday evening, around 7:45pm. Each boy scout is asked to bring $5 for lunch, and then $ for a fast food stop for dinner. Also bring snacks and a water cup.

Cubs:

  • Tonight we talked about the following character traits: patience, contentment, and faith.
  • We also kicked off our popcorn sale drive. Each cub came home with the brochure, now it is time to sell! Money collected for popcorn will be due 11/10/09.

Webelos:

  • Tonight we worked on our fitness badge by discussing a healthy lifestyle void of alcohol and drugs.



Upcoming events:

  • Mom & Me campout: 10/3-10/4  If you are going (mom) with your cub, would you please let Mimi (mimi@ipog.com) know? She is organizing rides. The boy scouts will be leaving Friday 10/2, in order to service this event. They will return Saturday, 10/3. More details to come.
  • Popcorn Blitz Day- 10/17
  • Fall Family Campout: Friday, 10/23-10/24. We will learning fire safety, bicycle safety, fishing, hiking, and possibly work toward our Whittling Chips (cubs). Please contact John Daniel (j.daniel@scouts131.com) if you are able to help with planning this event.  We plan to camp locally (Chapel Hill)

What we did tonight:

  • Bears: We talked about communication skills, especially non-verbal. We played Charades!
  • Webelos: Athetics! Learned how to play ultimate frisbee



The Cub Scouts are evaluating the use of ScoutTrack, an Internet-based service that makes it easy to manage Cub Scout Packs.  This service will allow the leaders to enter the Cubs’ progress toward ranks and other awards.  Parents will also be able to log on and enter progress that their boys have made at home.  Other features include:

Cubs:

  • Tonight we talked about responsibility and how to be responsible. We wrote thank you notes to our moms/dads telling them what we planned to do to be responsible.
  • Mom and Me is coming up! Get the “early bird” special for $26 (each camper, mom and cub) by mailing in the registration and your check by 9/22/09. It must be received by the scout office by 9/22/09 to qualify for the discount. Otherwise, it’s $46 a person. The camp is at George Pirtle in Carthage and will be held 10/3-10/4. If you are considering going with your cub, I’d like to know so I can co-ordinate rides. Email me at (mimi@ipog.com)
  • John Daniel is ordering “B” uniform t-shirts for the boys in the pack. Some of us have told him our boys’ shirt sizes, but others John guessed! Please email John Daniel ( john.n.robin@gmail.com ) and let him know what shirt size your boy wears. He’s ordering Wednesday.

Boy Scouts:

  • Congratulations to Douglas Greenwell, Andre Youngblood and Caleb Youngblood for passing 1st class board review tonight! These boys are now 1st Class Boy Scouts!
  • Merit Badge Weekend:
  1. Meet up at the church on Friday, 9/18 at 6pm or take your scout to Camp Tyler at 7pm.  Call or email James to let him know which one you are doing! James’ cell 903-330-1773 or JAMES.CARPENTER@YAHOO.COM Based on the response, we may need another driver.
  2. Pick up your scout at Camp Tyler on Saturday, 9/19/09. Dinner is at 6pm, and you can get your son at 7pm.Transportation back to the church will not be provided. Maps to Camp Tyler can be found at www.camptyler.org
  3. You must fill out 2 forms of release, completed and returned on Friday. If your scout didn’t get them tonight, James will be sending it over email soon.
  4. If you haven’t paid for the workshop yet, please do so on Friday. It’s $25.
  • Mom and Me - The boy scouts are helping at this cub event. We need a head count on who will attend. The weekend is 10/3-10/4, however, the boys intend to camp out Friday night, 10/2 and come home 10/3. Details to follow



Cubs/Webelos:

  • Tonight we learned how to set up a tent.
  • The September “Pack 131 Newsletter” went out. This newsletter is so informative- get one if you haven’t already or simply click here
  • Pack 131 will be attending a Rangers game in Arlington, next Wednesday, 9/16/09 at 7:05pm. Tickets are only $4 a person, and all family is invited to attend. Tickets must be purchased in advance, so let Kevin Young (cell 903-590-7100 or 903-876-2542 or kevin.amy.young@gmail.com) know by Monday, 9/14, if you want to attend. Kevin’s also coordinating rides.
  • October 3- Mom& Me camp out
  • October 17- Popcorn Blitz Day
  • October 23-25 Pack 131 Family Campout

Boy Scouts:

  • If your scout plans on attending the Merit Badge Workshop 9/18-9/19, but hasn’t paid yet, please do so next Tuesday. It’s $25.
  • We will meet up at the church at 6pm on Friday 9/18 to go to the Merit Badge Workshop. Have your scout eat dinner before meeting up at the church. Then the boys will return to the church Saturday after dinner.
  • After September, the boys will need to wear their “A” uniforms (including neckerchiefs)  - this is winter dress.
  • As a community service project, the boy scouts will help with the Mom & Me camp out on Oct. 3- details following



Cubs: (the webelos joined the cubs tonight):

  • We finished the music beltloop tonight!
  • John Daniel talked about the 4 rules of protecting yourself.
  • We made progress toward ranks (completing #4).
  • Talked about Tall Tales and Legends.
  • We would like to go to a Ranger’s game together! Details are coming soon!

Scouts:

  • Sign up for the Merit Badge Conference occurred tonight. If your son didn’t sign up but wants to go, please email James Carpenter asap ( JAMES.CARPENTER@YAHOO.COM) & then pay $25 next week. First year scouts will automatically be placed in the First Aid merit badge class.
  • Cubs “Mom ‘n me” will be October 3-4.  The boy scouts will be working this event.
