All: There will be no meeting the week before and the week of Thanksgiving (11/17 & 11/24) as well as the week before and the week of Christmas (12/15 & 12/22).

Webelos: Tonight we worked on individual requirements/achievements.

Cubs: Tonight we played and played!

Boy Scouts: We are still planning to campout 11/13-11/14 at Davey Crockett camp site.  This campout will help tenderfoot rank and 2nd class rank achieve their requirements for hiking and cooking.

Cubs:

  • Tonight we talked about “emergency preparedness”- how to be prepared in the event of an emergency. Parents, please go over page 11 and discuss 1 emergency with your son.
  • John Daniel provided a “Family Campout Special Edition” with all the information you need for this weekend’s campout (10/23-10/24). Please look over this and most importantly, if your family plans on attending, please contact John (903-283-7742) ASAP so that we will have an accurate head count for food and supplies.  The campout will begin as we arrive Friday and will last until after lunch on Saturday.
  • The Class B uniforms have arrived!  Those Cub Scouts who are able to attend the campout will get their shirts there.  The rest will be available at next week’s Pack meeting.

Boy Scouts:

  • Tonight we went over how to hike, safely.
  • We have a tenative campout 11/13-11/14.  This campout will help tenderfoot rank and 2nd class rank achieve their requirements for hiking and cooking.

All: SELL SELL SELL POPCORN!

Boy Scouts:

  • Sell popcorn if you have the forms. If not, we will have more forms next week. Go online and sign up in order to sell to relatives via the internet. When you go out selling, you need to wear your class “A”, merit badges and cap. Make sure you take a parent or buddy with you. Don’t go alone.
  • Please mark your calendar that we will not meet Thanksgiving or Christmas weeks.
  • Patrols need to work on their flags. They are due on 10/20. Pictures will be taken. Patrol yells are also due the same night.
  • Special thanks to the Boy Scouts that helped at Mom & Me. James said he had a number of compliments on them from moms who were complete strangers, but recognized him as being with them. Good job, guys!
  • Next week we will cover safe hiking, among other things.
  • Boy Scouts may want to bring flashlights next week so they can play flashlight tag, as it is getting too dark for frisbee.

All of the Cub Scouts in Pack 131 continue to make progress towards ranks.

    • Mr. Buchanan taught the Tigers and the Bears about emergency preparedness. The Cub dads are invited to attend next week’s Den meeting to help their son develop an emergency plan for their household.
    • The Webelos continued to learn more about physical fitness from Mr. Carrell and Mr. Young.

The boys were encouraged to log-on to our Pack website with their parents to wwatch the Trails End Popcorn training videos.  They were also encouraged to sign up at Trails-End.com so that they may easily sell popcorn to out-of-town family and friends.

More announcements and information may be found on our latest Pack 131 Newsletter.

Troop 131 and Pack 131 kicked off the 2009 Trails End Popcorn sale on September 29.  Over 70% of the sales volume stays local with 31% going directly to our units.  This fundraiser is crucial for us to provide a quality, year-round, action-packed, first-rate program for the boys.

The Scouts, with their parents, are encouraged to visit our Scouts131.com Popcorn Training.  Next they should go to Trails-End.com where they can create an account.  This account will allow them to sell delicious Trails-End Popcorn to out-of-town friends and relatives.

Mr. Smith will be offering the Scouts additional sales training at our next meeting.  Mr. Daniel will be talking about the prizes that our boys will be earning, and Mr. Buchanan will be letting everybody know what flavor of pie he likes best.
