Cubs:

  • The boys baked peach cobbler in a dutch oven and ate it! It was so good! They also played kickball while waiting for the cobbler.
  • If you haven’t mailed in your “Dad -n- lad” registration with the fee yet, it may be best to drive it to the East Texas Area Council located on 5th street before April 1st. Rates go up dramatically after April 1st.

Boy Scouts:

  • The boys received their 2010 membership cards. Please remind your son to remove it from clothing before washing!
  • Congratulations to Caleb Youngblood, the new Troop 131 Scribe. Caleb will be taking attendance at meetings and may ultimately be responsible for this weekly update!!! (mom is smiling)
  • We continued working on the eagle required merit badge, “Communications”. Only 1 or 2 more sessions and the class work will be complete. Completion does require some work at home. Please review this with your scout so he can complete this merit badge. After this merit badge, we plan to teach the “Law” merit badge.

Coming up:

  • Tentative campout and hike in April, at Tyler State Park. James Carpenter will send out details soon.
  • Summer Camp- James needs to know which adults can attend summer camp at Camp Pirtle. Also, please decide this week if your scout will be attending summer camp so we might obtain an approximate head count at our next meeting.

Cubs:

Please remember to mail in your registration form for the upcoming event, Dad-n-Lad. The deadline for early registration is 4/1/10.

Boy Scouts:

Congratulations to Douglas Greenwell, new patrol leader of the Raptures.

The boys are continuing their work on the Communications Merit Badge.  One of the requirements is that they listen/watch a debate concerning civil matters. Does anyone receive Sudden Link’s Channel 3? If yes, please email James ( james.carpenter@yahoo.com ). We are looking at the possibility of watching a blog cast to satisfy this requirement.

Congratulations to Karson and Koleson Sutsch for winning “Best Design” for their divisions in the Pine Wood Derby Car Contest.

Cubs: Please remember to mail in your registration form for the upcoming event, Dad-n-Lad. The deadline for early registration is 4/1/10.

Scouts: The boys held elections tonight and here is the outcome:

  • Andre Youngblood will serve as Senior Patrol Leader
  • Luke Boyd will serve as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
  • Koleson Sutsch will serve as Chaplin

The boys decided that they will vote on patrol leader positions next week.

Congratulations to the winners of the Pine Wood Derby Race last week!

1st place winners: Sammy Young & Ethan Broadfield

Next week we will be voting on “best design”, so bring your cars next Tuesday, 3/16/10.

Cubs:

“Dad & Lad” is right around the corner! It’s 4/10-4/11 at George W. Pirtle. Please mail your registration along with $26.60 per child and per adult by April. Just mail it to the East Texas Area Council directly. John will be posting the registration form on the scouts131.com website, if you didn’t get it already in the mail.

Scouts:

Don Smith is working with the boys on the merit badge, “Communications”. Please review the requirements for the badge on meritbadge.com. Specifically, the boys need an opportunity (as a group would be preferable) to attend a community debate, or interview candidates.  If you have any ideas on how the boys can do this together, please talk to James Carpenter.

Next week the boys will be voting on new troop positions.
